Bridging Memory

Though it’s only been one of two nights here, I have forgotten where I am. My eyes squint awake trying to make out objects in the darkness, where only a slit of light occupies the space.

My body has registered awake, as my mind toggles in between dream and reality. Softness and warmth sandwich me, luring me back towards the silence that tries to lull the tired in my eyes to sleep again.

Fighting back, my memory continues to jog, until last night reveals itself, “Ah, yes.” A bridge connects my memory with reality; I finally remember, while my empty bladder fills and urgency rolls me out of warmth into the dark morning cold.
