What is death? Is it the last exhale of life, the rigamortis of muscle, the grievance of the heart, the end of a relationship? Is it the renewing of the mind or the end of sins? Does it have a beginning?
Death isn’t just a hole in the ground, a casket holding the earth down, black clothing, and endless casseroles in an overflowing refrigerator. It’s so much more. It’s a relationship severed by the last breath of earthly life. It tears at the human heart. It angers. It has us asking questions we alone cannot answer. It drives us into making quick emotional decisions. Over time, it’s something we release from our grip and let go. Now, its a carcass in a box, six feet under, for the spirit has already gone Home, the beginning of eternal life.
Though the humanistic me mourns the loss of a servant of Christ, the daughter of the King of the Most High celebrates the beginning of life for him.
(1 Corinthians 15:55-57)
““Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
